Sunburst is Dedeco®’s trademark for our range of thermoplastic-bonded abrasives, specifically designed to compete with 3M® Scotch-Brite® Radial Bristle Discs, for deburring, finishing, cleaning and polishing metal, plastic, wood and composite.
Sunburst technology is the more versatile, conformable, and durable alternative to less efficient, labor intensive and inadequate legacy abrasives like sandpaper, flap discs, non-woven fiber, nylon filament and wire brushes. See for yourself.

- What are Sunburst products used for? Sunburst products are used for deburring, smoothing, finishing, and polishing a variety of materials, including metals, plastics, ceramics, acrylics, wood, and composites.
- How do Sunburst products compare to traditional wire brushes? Sunburst products are safer (no needle-like wire fragments), more durable, and provide consistent results without scratching or gouging the work surface.
- What materials can Sunburst abrasives handle? They can handle metals (aluminum, steel, brass), plastics, wood, ceramics, and even delicate materials like jewelry stones and dental composites.
- Are Sunburst abrasives reusable? Yes, they are long-lasting and maintain consistent performance throughout their lifespan.
- How do I know which Abrasive type to use? Aluminum Oxide is more durable and universal, Silicon Carbide is sharper and harder and often required in certain aerospace and medical manufacturing processes. Diamond is used for harder materials and preferred by dental professionals working with modern dental materials like composite or zirconia.
- What tools can be used with Sunburst products? Sunburst products are compatible with rotary tools (e.g., Dremel), bench grinders, micromotors, CNC machines, and handheld tools. MOTO-TOOL
- How do I select the right grit size for my project?
- Coarse grits (e.g., 36, 50) for deburring and aggressive material removal.
- Medium grits (e.g., 80, 120, 220) for cleaning and blending.
- Fine grits (e.g., 400, 1000 and finer) for finishing and polishing.
- How do I select the abrasive type?
- Aluminum Oxide - most popular, universal applications.
- Silicon Carbide - sharper and harder and often required in certain aerospace and medical manufacturing processes.
- Diamond - hardest, meant for hard metals and modern dental materials like composite and zirconia.

- Stacking Radial Bristle Discs
- Why? - Individual discs, while thin for tight slots or grooves, if used individually, may not offer enough stability. When stacked, stability is increased as is the available surface area that can be covered. In addition, the conformability of the stacked discs allows for working around the contour's surfaces and it also allows for placing edges in between the stacked discs.
- How? - The correct way to assemble multiple radial bristle discs. Stack with Dedeco logo facing up; rotate with the radius of the bristle; ensure tool is set to forward or reverse to match the direction the discs need to rotate. See video.
- Can Sunburst abrasives be used on heat-sensitive materials? Yes, they generate minimal heat, making them ideal for delicate and heat-sensitive materials like medical instruments or jewelry.
- What are the recommended operating speeds? Operating speeds vary based on the abrasive type and material, but Sunburst products are optimized for a range of RPMs suitable for precise and aggressive applications.
- Do I need to use compounds, rouges, or pastes with Sunburst abrasives? No, Sunburst products are designed to deliver excellent results without additional compounds.
- Are Sunburst products safe to use? Yes, they are safer than traditional wire brushes, with no risk of high-velocity wire fragments. Always use protective goggles when operating power tools.
- Can Sunburst products be sterilized? Yes, they are sterilizable and autoclavable, making them suitable for medical and dental applications.
- Can I stack Sunburst discs for larger surface areas? Yes, Sunburst discs are modular and can be stacked to customize thickness for larger areas.
- Are there pre-made assortments for testing different grits? Yes, Dedeco offers "Try 'Em Sets" and other assortments that include a variety of grits and shapes.
- Do you offer color-coded grit identification? Yes, all Sunburst products are color-coded to ensure easy selection of the appropriate grit.
